Visitors are being asked to share and discuss their favourite North East attractions in England to help others rediscover the region's hidden treasures.

Visitnortheastengland.com has recently been updated with a host of social media tools including links to Facebook, Twitter and Flikr to encourage better interaction between visitors to the region and encourage discussion about the region's top attractions.

Stacy Hall, director of communications and tourism at One North East, said: "We often receive excellent feedback from North East tourists and the new website gives a more personal view about what the region has to offer."

A new link to mynortheastengland.com has also been included, asking people to comment on events and places they have visited across the region to rekindle past memories of the northeast.

As well as highlighting the top five reviews, the website also asks visitors to share photographs and videos of their experiences as well as leaving comments about places they have visited.

Stacy Hall added: "One North East has invested in technology since 2003 to promote northeast England around the world.

"With over 670,000 unique visitors to visitnortheastengland.com in 2009 averaging 60,000 unique visitors a month, we have had excellent feedback from the new website with people from all around the globe sharing experiences of the northeast."

Visitors to the site can click on several categories such as accommodation, activities, attractions and food and drink to read reviews and give star ratings to places they have visited.
