Business delegation to South Africa

A Malta Enterprise-led business delegation is in South Africa in a bid to create new investment opportunities and boost trade links.

Around 15 entrepreneurs hailing mainly from the financial sector, real estate, renewable energy and logistics sector, form part of the delegation.

South Africa produces 18 per cent of the continent's gross domestic product and boasts 45 per cent of Africa's mineral production and 50 per cent of the continent's purchasing power.

The Maltese delegation is visiting Cape Town and Durban. Cape Town is the engine of the Western Cape region's economy, with most of the heavy and medium industry located within the metropolitan area of Cape Town. The largest sector in the city's economy is the financial and business-services industry. The tourism, retail, construction and property sectors have also been doing well for a number of years.

The Durban Metropolitan Area has a large and diversified economy with strong manufacturing, tourism, transportation, finance and government sectors. Durban is a thriving industrial centre supporting a major seaport and industries include shipbuilding and ship repairing, sugar refining, petroleum refining, fishing, automobile assembly, and the manufacture of food products, paint, chemicals, fertilisers, soap, footwear and textiles.
