San Ġwann desperately needed a win against a Melita side who were without George Gribbon and Julian Galea. The Saints attacked relentlessly but were denied by Melita goalkeeper Karl Zahra. But in all fairness Joe Brincat's forwards were too careless in front of goal.
On 12 minutes, San Ġwann's Sergio Hili dribbled past two defenders and shot inches wide. San Gwann continued to attack and on 24 minutes Aboulezz again sprinted through the Melita area but was foiled by Zahra and from the rebound Hili's drive was blocked.
Melita responded on 39 minutes when a Steve Bonnici lob hit the crossbar.
On 62 minutes, Stephen Pisani came face to face with Zahra but the Melita keeper saved with his feet.
Seven minutes later Nicolò Baldacchino broke free but was foiled by keeper Justin Spiteri.
On 77 minutes Clint Gatt just missed the target after playing a good one-two with Chris Cuschieri, with the ball finishing inches wide .
Four minutes from time, Baldacchino shot straight at Spiteri.
