Man jailed for threatening inspector in court

A man awaiting trial by jury was jailed this morning for threatening a police inspector shortly after a judge revoked his bail.The case took place on December 4.

Silvio Buttigieg, 36, was caught outside his home in the early hours by police when one of his bail conditions clearly stated that he should be in by midnight, Police Inspector Victor Aquilina said. The police then filed an application for his bail to be revoked.

Mr Justice David Scicluna revoked the bail and the accused lost his €4,660 deposit and a €16,310 personal guarantee.

On leaving the court room, Mr Buttigieg turned to the prosecuting inspector in that case, Jesmond Borg and harassed him. He told the inspector that he would push his keys into his eyes.

Magistrate Claire Micallef Stafrace took into consideration that he had relapsed before jailing him for seven months.
