Rabat man faces drug trafficking trial

Andrea Zammit, 53 of Rabat, appears before a jury today, accused of association for the importation and trafficking of 14.3 kilos of Cannabis.

The man was arraigned in 2005 after the drugs were discovered in a police raid.

He was also accused of the illegal possession of a number of protected birds, which were also discovered during a police raid. He pleaded not guilty.

The trial will be presided by Mr Justice Joseph Galea Debono.
