The Malta Union of Teachers said today it was suspending industrial actions in state schools after receiving a communication from the Finance Ministry and the Ministry of Education which could serve as a good basis for discussion and agreement.

The union had ordered a range of industrial actions as it pressed its demand for allowances to teaching grades in view of increases in their responsibilities.

The teachers had been ordered not to perform duties which were not strictly related to teaching.
