Updated: Two injured in Zabbar head-on crash
A 15-year-old boy from Mosta suffered fractures this afternoon when the car he was travelling in was involved in a head-on crash with another vehicle in the old road which from Zabbar leads to Marsascala.
The crash took place shortly before 4 p.m. causing extensive damage to the two cars - a Toyota Carina and Citroen ZX. The boy was in the Toyota.
The Citroen also crashed into a wall. Such was the force of impact that its engine was wrenched off the chassis and ended up on the road. Its driver, a 28-year-old foreigner, resident at Hal Far, was slightly injured.
The road was closed to all traffic.

@ Ian Galea I am not saying that I prefer the road with potholes. The only thing I said is that when it was filled with potholes ppl used to drive slower to avoid the damage to the car. Now everyone is overtaking at really high speeds and it's not an occurence that in 2010 only there were some 4 / 5 serious head-on collisions in this road. (To wrench an engine from a chassis is no joke, at least I am assuming that when car passed VRT it was checked thoroughly that all mountings of engine are ok)

every time i pass from this road, you face at least someone on your lane, coming from opposite direction. all of us make mistakes, and without every judging anyone, but some driving is terrorism, with which we cannot negotiate. They do not appreciate neither their peace and health, nor the peace and health of others.

Without going into the merits of this accident, I do note that this road has always been considered as a secondary road, despite being arterial road on the national roadmap, linking Marsascala to Zabbar.
Shame to the Ministry and Authority responsible for roads. It has potholes galore, improper lane alignment, uncontrolled water run-off - especially after rainfall - and compehensive management plan as regards to upkeep. Only this morning I noticed a fallen dead trunk of a whole acacia tree waiting the Good Lord to carry it down to the valley of Wied il-Għajn (the water catchment area beneath Il-Bidni). Imagine this, a very possible hazard for road safety and nobody gives a toot about this (if only to give a minor example).
Welcome to Southern disComfort! Marsascala ranks very low as a priority zone for this government. Sometimes I get the perpetual feeling that the government reasoning is this "OK, it's a Labour area, let's focus somewhere else."
I sincerely hope that all the persons injured in this accident get well soon.

Oh my God,I hope the 15 year old boy gets well soon....VERY VERY soon.I have a 15 year old boy too...and it hurts to read this.Whoever' s fault it is...or whether it s the road or the rain...it s definately not your fault.

A road which is very prone to head on accidents. No wonder my father was killed in a head on crash 100 metres away from where this accident took place, 28 years ago, leaving my mother and I alone (at that time just 1 yr 10months old!). In this country, no matter how much we plead for barriers, these pleas always fall on deaf ears!! same thing in the Marsaskala bypass which is being rennovated. BARRIERS PLS!!!! Still in time!! especially close to Recycling plant -quite a sharp bend. and i repeat once more BARRIERS!! not just here!!! but all our main roads need barriers!!

wardens and police should give warning to drivers, driving around with children as passengers not wearing a safety belt or sitting in the lap of the front passenger.

Very True! This road has become very popular with speeding drivers. I take this road on a regular basis with my kid in the car and some cars speed by at more than 120kmph....sometimes even more! It's become too unsafe. I hope this scenario won't be present when the pypass is ready. I hate to say it by i think a speed camera is in order here and in the new by pass as well since some people think they are driving supercars on the autobahn! Most crashes occur with old cars that are incapable of handling and braking at high speeds.

Another head on crash! Now let's see, who do we blame this one on?
The road seems to be dry, so skidding is out. No pot holes in sight. Two cars, two drivers and they are both right? Wrong. A little boy was hurt and someone is to blame.I hope the police can figure this one out and point out the reckless driver so the court can take action. When are we going to learn to drive defensively and except responsibility? Not cars, not trees not bad roads cause accidents, it's reckless drivers that do. Hope everybody is fine.

I hate to say it but when this road was filled with potholes it was safer to drive since now drivers are going down the road overspeeding heavily. It's the 3rd serious accident from when it was re-done. Hope all ppl in cars involved get well soon.

Oh! So now we are in favour of potholes?!?! ... It's all down to drivers respecting other drivers and themselves!!

I jog along this road. I am not surprised with this accident.
Most drivers are very reckless, they think they have 10 cars and 10 lives!
