It never ceases to amaze me how people go about living their mundane lives without flinching when they hear of the construction that is to replace what once was a great structure which involved architects, workmen, rich and poor, the educated and the illiterate.

They all pooled in their skills, their knowledge, their resources, their devotion and their plain hard work. Yet here we are with our great technological skills and what do we come up with? A stupid structure with no architectural passion whatsoever.

Mass production is threatening creativity across the western world. Architecture seems to be losing its meaning. The Opera House deserves to be built exactly how it once stood. They were capable in those days; why not today, when we should have become so advanced in our ways?

The simplicity of what they intend to do is sickening and an eyesore to say the least; as for the money it involves I can only say it is just pure laziness. We need another theatre and not without a roof.

I am sick of reading about this theatre. The answer is only one: it should be built as it once stood - no questions or debates.

These so-called modern structures are just easy money for the architects. Malta has enough ugly modern structures already; let us at least respect this once-majestic building.

We do not need a hundred discussions and a thousand letters in the paper - the answer is there in the foundations that still lie waiting patiently for that one conscientious architect to come along and bring it back to life.

God knows we need another theatre in Malta and nothing else should take its place.
