Pasta Poiatti Qormi 3
Laferla Insurance WH 0

This top-of-the-table match was played at a fast tempo.

The first scoring chance fell to White Hart's Tony Azzopardi but his flick on the turn just missed the near post. Eight minutes later, Saul Halladay, for Qormi, put Jonathan Aquilina through but the latter's flick was saved by Vassallo Agius.

John Borg then caught the White Hart defence napping but Vassallo Agius saved his double effort.

In the second half, White Hart started on top, producing a couple of scoring chances with Chircop effecting a fine save on Torpiano.

Andre Ghio denied Tua when he cleared a ball destined for goal. But suddenly, Qormi gained control in midfield.

From a short corner, Sarcia first hit the post and then opened the scoring with a lightning push shot.

White Hart pushed their opponents back into their own half but in a counter-attack on 61 minutes, Qormi struck again. Halladay advanced towards goal, rounded Vassallo Agius and passed to the unmarked Philip Magri to tap in goal no.2.

Leaders Qormi added another goal through Steve Tanti who slapped the ball in, following a rebound off the goalkeeper's pads.

Qormi have maximum points from eight matches and are now just one win away from winning the championship.

Played under a constant drizzle, this match was a rather scrappy affair.

Rabat might have gone ahead early on had it not been for a save by Waylin Abdilla on Branko Radojevic. At the other end, Busuttil Leaver wasted a scoring chance for the Stars.

Young Stars won a short corner on 18 minutes from which Christian Bonello put the team ahead with a fierce drive.

Three minutes later, Young Stars almost snatched another goal but Ian Azzopardi did well to stop Marvin Vella's effort.

Rabat equalised with a fluke goal on 25 minutes. Shawn Falzon's back pass across the D knocked against the goalkeeper's stick for the ball to end up in the net.

The second half was more or less the same as the first with both teams showing little enthusiasm.

Rabat scored the winner on 50 minutes, James Azzopardi beating Abdilla with a neat flick from a short corner set-piece. Rabat could have increased their advantage but Abdilla denied them with two superb saves.
