While the makers of Iraq war movie The Hurt Locker bask in the Oscars glory, a very different movie on Iraq - The Devil's Double - is currently being shot in Malta.

It tells the true story of Latif Yahia, an Iraqi soldier who became a stand-in for Uday Hussein, one of the sons of Saddam Hussein.

Starring in the leading role is Dominic Cooper (above), who was photographed by reader Simon Rossi in San Gwann.

The film is being produced by Corsan - a Belgian production company.

The film is directed by Lee Tamahori Ludivine Sagnier will play Sarrab, Uday’s concubine and secret lover to Latif.

The screenplay, written by Michael Thomas, is based on Latif Yahia’s biographical novel.

In 1994, Lee Tamahori surprised the world with Once were warriors. He quickly became one of the most acclaimed directors of his generation with classics like Mullholland Falls, The Edge, Along came a spider , the Bond box office hit Die Another Day with Pierce Brosnan and Halle Berry and XXX2: The State of the Union.

Dominic Cooper recently completed Stephen Frear’s Tamara Drewe in which he holds the lead role opposite Gemma Arterton. In 2009 he starred in the acclaimed hit film An Education, which received three Academy Award nominations including Best Motion Picture. His additional film credits include last year’s international blockbuster, Mamma Mia!, The Duchess and The History Boys.

Corsan has been in existence for 20 years and has grown into a fully integrated film production, financing, distribution and sales company. Recent film credits include the romantic comedy Meant to be directed by Paul Breuls starring Kelly Reilly (Sherlock Holmes), Kris Marshall (Love Actually), Julian Rhind-Tutt (Nottinghill, Green Wing), Santiago Cabrera (Heroes, Che: Part One) and Mia Maestro (Frida, Motorcycle Diaries).
