Ryanair flight's delay from London
Raymond Bencini, in his letter Thank Goodness The Toilets Were Free (March 8), commented on a delay to Ryanair flight FR3882 from London Luton to Malta (February 26).
We wish to assure Mr Bencini and readers that 93 per cent of Ryanair's flights arrive on time and to point out that this 90-minute delay was as a result of strike action by selfish air traffic controllers in France, and was out of the control of Ryanair.
Unfortunately, for customs and excise reasons, it is illegal for Ryanair to open its in-flight refreshment trolleys on the ground and we were unable to provide any refreshment service until in international airspace.
This year 73 million passengers will travel on Ryanair's guaranteed lowest fares, including up to one million passengers who will enjoy on-time flights to/from our new Malta base and we hope to welcome Mr Bencini and many other Maltese passengers on board our aircraft very soon.

Ryan Air has indeed made it possible to travel on short haul distance flights at cheaper airfares then those imposed by national flag carriers. It is true that there exsist hidden costs, but for the frequent traveller booking with Ryan Air in advance, the trend points towards a long term overall cost reduction that is very significant .
People who CONTINOUSLY pass negative remarks about this Airline and its' service are not being sensible in their critisicm.

I have flown with Ryanair, and whenever I get the chance I will always prefer it to any other airline. They are cheap, safe, on time, and they spare you the service of disgusting food. Snacks are always available, or buy your own at the terminal. I flew on Airmalta in February on a return flight to Rome, the plane made a stop in sicily for an hour and on the way back they did the same with the difference that they ran out of fuel and there was no fire safety staff to supervise the refuelling. We had to get of the plane for another hour in damn cold weather and had to wait in a sorry excuse for a terminal.

@ All of you complaining about Ryanair......wow....GIVE US A BREAK ......we who are happy to use Ryanair, and always will, are not going to change our minds, because of you....so your comments are useless!! With Ryanair everyone, is able to travel, even those on a little budget, but needing also a break, just like you people on big budgets. You can fly KM, the others can choose......

Daniel de Carvalho, I dont understand why Ryanair keep on saying about economy airline keep on saying (as you quote)This year 73 million passengers will travel on Ryanair's guaranteed lowest fares, how come every time i travel i always chose to fly AIR MALTA or EASY JET as they by far good prices ,To put it Bluntly it's what I end up paying for the ticket ,Your prices at €10 each way was too good to be true at the end it would have costed me €18.99 more ,plus i would have had 5 kilos less weight then the other the AIRLINES mentioned above . So would i call this a value for money Airline , i dont think so. 73 million passengers lol that is other countrys because they dont have a choice , Good day all happy traveling

Regarding the several comments about the use of the word 'selfish' by Mr. Carvalho, in describing the Union's action in France, how else could one describe the event especially if airlines were not advised in advance? And if Ryanair was advised, the 90 minute delay would have been waited out in an airport, anyway. Are drinks so important, after all? The problem with Unions is that in order to back an often frivolous claim by its members, they don't mind inconveniencing the general public! If I am not mistaken, this was the second or third 'strike' by air traffic controllers in France in the last twelve months. It seems to me that a Union problem suddenly became Ryanair's problem. How fair is that? That, in my book, is utter selfishness on the part of the air traffic controllers and their Union.

Continue to show your true colours against anything the workers of any classification do to protect their interests Martinelli. It shows what political party you support.

I cannot understand anyone wanting to travel with Ryanair EVER. I never have and never will. The reputation is enough to put anyone other than the most adventurous off. The company's boss regularly gives his opinion whether we want it or not, along with his potty ideas and stealth charges.
THANK GOODNESS FOR AIR MALTA.
After all you what you pay for. Choose carefully and the National Airline has good deals.
As Mr Cassar says, rudeness from Ryanair is totally uncalled for.

We are now accustomed to Ryanair's antics. They pick on everyone and blow their own trumpets very loudly. Ryanair forgot to mention how selfish they are when they are charging their customers for the do-it-yourself check in, a measure that is actually saving tons of Euros to the airline. Ryanair conveniently omits to mention the 40 Euros they steal from you if you forget your boarding card. Or the exhorbitant 230 Euros for the carriage of 20Kg luggage which Air Malta carries for free. What a about their inexistent customer care department? How inhumane can Ryanair be to abandon passengers in a weather related delay simply because there is some EU rule that exhonerates them from offering basic assistance? How low can Ryanair go?

Who are you to judge whether they were 'selfish' or not???? But it does not surprise me considering your company's perceptions towards unions.

I too was on that flight - first of all as Mr Cassar said, non -alcoholic drinks could have been served & secondly, why not then serve free drinks once the flight has taken off as a good will gesture? I was also unfortunate to have been on your flight 5 days earlier from Malta to London which was delayed for just under 3 hours due to a technical fault. To be fair, we were handed compensation forms - I await to see if I actually receive any compensation!

Dear Mr.Carvalho
It is unbecoming of you sir,to comment on industrial disputes in other countries without being aware of the rationale for such industrial action along with the imprudent language you use,i.e, selfish, requires moderation and you should confine yourself to addressing issues raised rather than deflect our attention away from the root cause of the complaint.Water or a light snack being distributed does not constitute in-flight refreshment when such a 90 minute delay effects captured passengers ,as in their seats on the plane, nor are are regulations violated by the issuance of such.Selfish springs to mind again only this time directed at Ryanair customer service etiquette.

@ Daniel de Carvalho: You are quoted as saying "Unfortunately, for customs and excise reasons, it is illegal for Ryanair to open its in-flight refreshment trolleys on the ground and we were unable to provide any refreshment service until in international airspace." Serving non-alcoholic refreshments are not only exempt from any customs & excise regulations but should be carried out as a matter of courtesy to the people who are actually paying your salary. The arrogance of your airline does not surprise me anymore and only goes to create a negative double whammy for your company. Not only do many see through the arrogance by not using Ryanair's products but they pass on the revenue that you could of had to your competitors.

Dear Mr Daniel de Carvalho,
As a very frequent flyer with Ryan Air I must congratulate you and all your staff working for the airline for a smooth running service.
I too was delayed from Luton last month due to a cockpit window needing to be changed, yes it did disrupt my plans and it was a pain in the rear end but hey, how many times have been on time or in fact landed early????
Roll on next may when i will use your service again.
5* to Ryan Air
