"Nicotine slave" Daniel Magrin was declared quitter of the year since he quit his packet a day of cigarettes (March 9). I deeply congratulate Mr Magrin for this award but most of all for making the wise choice of quitting this very bad habit. However, if Mr Magrin is the quitter of the year, my father Carmelo has to be crowned the quitter of the century.
My father has been a chain smoker for the past 50 years and his normal count of smoked cigarettes per day was of 60, which later increased to 100. My dad had to quit because of a medical condition, which condition was the end result of all those cigarettes he smoked. One would have never seen my dad without a cigarette in hand; however he had the will and the power to conquer this habit. Unfortunately, the effects of such smoking left their mark on my dad and conditioned his way of living. But I admire him for the choice he made as it took a lot of courage. Once again congratulations also go to Mr Magrin.
