Libya says it accepts Spanish proposal to resolve visas issue
Borg has meeting with Libyan PM
Foreign Minister Tonio Borg has had a meeting in Tripoli with Libyan Prime Minister Mahmoudi al Baghdadi during which the current visas impasse was discussed, the Foreign Ministry said.
Mr al Baghdadi told Dr Borg that proposals made by the Spanish EU presidency to settle the issue were acceptable to the Libyan government.
Switzerland still has to give its reaction.
The Libyan Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for the assistance given by Malta in this issue.
The Foreign Ministry said that Dr Borg intended to raise the issue again at a meeting of the EU Council of Foreign Ministers on Monday unless a solution was announced before then.
Dr Borg called for a return to normality as soon as possible to avoid further hardship to the Maltese who work or do business with Libya.
The minister this morning also had a meeting with the Libyan Minister for European Affairs, Abdulati Alobidi.
He also had phone conversations with Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Moratinos and Italian Foreign Minister Franco Farttini, who is due to visit Libya on Monday.

Joe E Galea I am not a Pn supporter if you followed other news items you would have realised this, but credit has to be given where it is due and Tonio Borg is doing a great job. Let's be fair for once and give him some credit.

Well done to minister Tonio Borg. Now that is what I call a great diplomat, in 2 years time Pn should seriously think about this guy becoming the new leader of the party.

Not to take away your PN euphorism, I think you misread the follwoing part: "proposals made by the Spanish EU presidency to settle the issue were acceptable to the Libyan government."

I think the secret document seen by Joseph Muscat and Sciberras Trigona (which documents were on the internet!) were the solutin to this problem :)
This Government is delivering, like it or not.
