Police invited to investigate licences corruption claims

Transport Malta said today that it had asked the police to investigate corruption claims made by Labour MP Joe Mizzi in Parliament.

Mr Mizzi alleged yesterday that there was massive fraud in the issuing of driving and vehicle licences by the ADT, which now forms part of Transport Malta.

He said that hundreds of vehicle licences had been issued without payment having been made, and the auditors had not noticed the discrepancies.

Furthermore, persons within the Authority had been bribed to alter driving licences to cover various categories of driving.

He also alleged that senior officials knew what was happening but were not acting or were protecting those involved, to the extent that police investigations were being misled.
