@Lilian Rowina Balzan Ex. Aus.: Did you bother to check the actual suicidal rates before even commenting? See for yourself, Australia has a higher percentage (more than double in fact) of the suicide rates in Malta.

Over the most recent ten year period, Malta recorded an annual average of 6 suicides per 100,000, with no significant trend. During the ten year period from 1997 to 2006, the annual average in Australia --according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS)-- was twice as much, although with a slight downward trend, reaching just below 10 in 2006.
A startling feature in Australian data is that the number rises rapidly for males over 80 years old --from about 15 to 35.

Your comment is ridiculous. As others have pointed out the suicide figures are 229 over 10 years a rate of 29 a year. In the UK, it is estimated that 15,000 people a year commit suicide and thats a liberal figure. Enjoy your trip back to Australia.

Dear Lilian Rowina Balzan Ex. Aus.,
Those numbers are for a decade. When you compare them to the fact that people are killing themselves by the thousands, per year, in large cities, this rate is actually amazing.

this country now is getting to a stage where people are being driven to dispair. Its time to say goodbye to Malta and return back home much sooner then later.
