Palermo striker Miccoli bemused by Italy omission

Palermo striker Fabrizio Miccoli is puzzled as to why he continues to be overlooked by Italy coach Marcello Lippi.

The 30-year-old has been instrumental in Palermo's impressive campaign so far.

Miccoli has scored 10 goals this season to help the Sicilian outfit climb to fourth in Serie A.

"Why am I not being called up to the national team?"

Miccoli told Corriere dello Sport.

"We need to ask Lippi.

"I have to be honest, it hurts because I would like to at least be considered.

"But I will continue to play as I am doing."

The former Juventus forward has not featured for the Azzurri since a friendly against Finland in November 2004.

Miccoli struck the winner in Sunday's 1-0 triumph over Livorno. The victory allowed Palermo to climb two points clear of fifth-placed Juve with 11 games remaining.
