Medavia investing €10.5m on new hangar
Video: Paul Spiteri Lucas
Aircraft maintenance company Medavia is investing €10.5 million on a new hangar and environmentally-friendly office block, the Prime Minister was told this morning during a tour of the company's premises in Safi.
The hangar is being set up in the new €17m aviation park, whose setting up was announced last week.
Medavia managing director Abdurazagh Zmirli said the project, set to be completed by June, would see a 5,000 sq metre state of the art hangar and a 2,000 sq metre office block. The government would help the company in the construction of the apron and infrastructural services.
Dr Gonzi said the creation of the aviation park was a dream that existed for a long time and was finally becoming reality.

We have thousands of illegal immigrants because of whom? Both parties have their representatives in Brussels. But nothing had changed, now these people have ID cards and most probably they will have right to vote.

Deo Micallef and Albert Grech, I thank for saving my time, in travelling across the Atlantic.
Read his piece, it took over 23 years to do just that (some of it anyway), It took the great Mintoff one day to build an Airline, which without it, the scribbling that comes from across the great divide would not have been possible. Stop involving Eve, She is my current girl friend.

@Martinelli
We have big deficit because of NP
We have long hospital waiting lists because of NP
We have out of stock medicines because of NP
We have black dust problem because of NP
We have more than 7000 unemployed because of NP
We have high W/E electricity bills because NP never invested in alternative source energy.
Want to carry on?
In 1987 you found millions to make what you mentioned and shame on you and this government today we have a gigantic deficit figure. Meanwhile in 1971 Labour found nothing and started from scratch. We had nothing at all that the PN use to send people to Australia to find their luck. Meanwhile in 70’s Labour from nothing founded Airmalta (ghasafar ta comb), Seamalta, Mid- Med Bank, Bank Of Valletta, Gozo Channel and more. What you have to say about Manufacture Industries do you know that ST Microelectronics, Brandstatter, Toly products, Carlo Gavazzi, Merit (today Methode) Pharmamed (today Actavis) De La Rue. Do you have to say something about social services, children’s allowance, free health services (with no waiting lists) minimum wage, 40 hour week, maternity leave and a list that never ends.

The Issue is more serious than a mobile telephone , television set or a Kit Kat bar. The whole issue is deeper than this. We are facing a system collapse. We have been living in illusion and under false luxuries which is evaporating in slow motion. Could we sustain this luxury we have today? For how long?
Do you watch foreign news please?
-The USA slowly but surely losing its political, economical and military muscles [running after Bin Laden] and soon no longer be counted among suzerain countries in the international arena.
-China has stripped Europe's largest economy of its top exporter title. Data released by the German Federal Statistics Office showed the country's exports fell by 18.4 percent in 2009 when compared to the previous year.
Conclusions; we are facing two irreversible deficits in both finance and population. The latter would leave Europe and all developing countries more like an old and poor old peoples home and the former would lead to capitalism’ death. All this is happening while the young Communist Chinese dragon is flying up high.

@Martinelli and his like.
It may be true that the NP can claim such achievemments - now can you please ask Medavia CEO to intervene with his government to allow maltese citizens to enter Libya.

One thing Ganninu and Co you forgot to mention, that Medavia was born under LABOUR GOVERNMENT. No more no less.

@ Ganninu
You should thank Mintoff and his long term vision for this investment, Medavia was his creation, so is Airmalta ( hence the tourism industry) and it's former engineering facilities which were sold to Lufthansa Technik. The bulk of manufacturing industry in Malta was established during his time in power, ST Microelectronics still accounts for 45% of Malta's exports! He was not the devil that the PN tried to portray after all, still remember the crowd shouting " sallbu, sallbu" during a PN mass meeting, no attempts were made to stop them and no apologies were done from the p.n's side.

And you are because of Adam and Eve!
You have an adequate supply of electricity because of NP.
You have water in your taps because of the NP.
You have a decent telephone system because of the NP.
You have modern schools including thousands of computers because of the NP.
You have an open market and choice of colour TVs & other goods because of the NP.
You decide what you want to eat and when because of the NP - not bulk buying.
You have record employment because of the NP.
You have Lufthansa and SR because the NP reopened MCAST and over 10K attending University.
You have pharma-industry which is coming in or expanding because of the NP.
You have peace and quiet, no riots, no beatings etc. because of the NP
You have better roads because of the NP and the EU which Joseph fought so much against!
You will have better public transport because of the NP.
Need I carry on? And all of this and much, much more since 1987! Does that not tell you something?
You have foreign investments coming in like never before because of the NP.

Obviously this investment is coming along not directly as a result of the Government. The same apples when a factory closes shop. However the fact that there is a centre-right government which always believed in investment helps a lot.

James Grima and the other apologists...." the government will help the company in the construction of the apron and infrastructural services"..... so where is the investment boys.
As usual the taxpayer is the investor. Read the contents of the write-up boys, that is if you know what `apron` and `infrastructural` means. Bzar fl`ghajnejn!

This investment is all due to Gonzi's most powerful hand also known as the Malta Enterprise. Well done boys! This will create more jobs in the construction and engineering sector.

Positive news is always welcome, particularly at a time of global recession. Let's not forget that the projects reported recently together with the prevailing stability will push us out of recession sooner.

Recently we were hearing every second day that a new factory is opening or that some company is investing more money to improve its facilities. These last few days it has become a daily news item. Well, today must be a new record. First we hear that a pharmaceutical company is expanding its operations in Malta and the latest news is that Medavia is doing the same.
This government really has a vision for Malta's future. No wonder that Dr Gonzi said the creation of the aviation park was a dream that existed for a long time and was finally becoming reality.
