The building of the first office block at SmartCity Malta will be concluded at the end of July and officially inaugurated on October 10, CEO Fareed Abdul Rahman said this afternoon.
Speaking during a visit to the site by Infrastructure Minister Austin Gatt, Mr Abdul Rahman said that the inauguration would coincide with the 10th anniversary of Dubai Internet City.
When asked when the first tenants would move in, Mr Abdul Rahman said he expected operations to start around mid-September, but would divulge any names.
He said that marketing for SmartCity Malta was continuing in several countries including Japan, Korea, Egypt and China.
Mr Abdul Rahman showed Dr Gatt round the project and said that the rest of the site was being levelled in preparation for the other office blocks.
Dr Gatt said that the completion of this block by the end of July would mean that Smart City would have delivered on its commitment one year three months in advance.
This quelled media speculation that the project had slowed down and that prime investor Tecom had cooled down about it, he said.
