A man who was last year fined for holding illegal lotto and acting as a lotto receiver was today given a six month prison term suspended for two years following an appeal by the Attorney General.

The Magistrates’ Court last year had also found Edward Falzon guilty of selling lotto tickets from unlicenced premises. He had been fined €5,659.

But the AG appealed arguing that the Magistrates’ Court had applied the law incorrectly since this provided for a prison term, besides a fine.

Giving judgement, Mr Justice Michael Mallia agreed with the AG, confirmed the fine and gave the man a suspended sentence.
