Air Malta sells its millionth seat through its portal
Air Malta said today that it had carried the millionth passenger to have booked a flight on its portal www.airmalta.com.
Fiona Farrugia bought her ticket for a flight to Brussels last December.
Upon arriving at the airport Departures Lounge this morning, she was greeted by Brian Bartolo, Air Malta's General Manager Marketing and Product, who told her about the milestone and presented her with a bottle of Champagne and a memento on the occasion. Both she and a friend were also offered an upgrade to Club Class on their flight to Brussels and two free return tickets each to any Air Malta destination.
Fiona Farrugia, of Zabbar, is a young mother. She is also a Critical Care Nurse and together with Patricia O'Brien, a physiotherapist, was travelling to Brussels for the 30th International Symposium on Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine.
Air Malta's booking engine was launched in April 2007. Today it offers a variety of services that cater for the airline customers' individual needs, from special dietary and religious meal requirements to children's meals, expectant mothers and people with special conditions.
Other services include web and mobile check-in whereby passengers can choose their seats online, travel insurance, car hire and hotel accommodation abroad.

As C Cassar rightly pointed out, one cannot do a web check-in from most countries/airports. Why one continues to ask? I too have put this question but the reply was bleak - we will work on it! If smaller airlines and low cost allow you not only to check in for the out bound flight but also for the return flight from the luxury of your home even before you fly on the outward flight why does Air Malta not offer this service??? Air Malta has to put its house in order.

The problem is you still can't do a web check-in when flying from London Heathrow or Munich. Why is this? I have spoken to several people at Air Malta but none of them no the reason why. It's possible from Gatwick and Duesseldorf for example. Heathrow & Munich are much more popular airports and yet you have to go queue up even with hand baggage. Come on Air Malta, you've got a very young aircraft fleet but your website really does need an overhaul because looks very low rent. For example, the default months on the pop-down calendar for outbound & return flights are the current month. If I select a date in June for my outbound flight the inbound calendar still states March!. It should by default state the same month for outbound as in most circumstances this is what will be selected or maybe the following month. Take an example from Air Baltic, they have a greay website for an airline of similar size. I sent an email to Air Malta pointing this out but never got a reply, maybe they can reply here.
