Donovan: Everton manager David Moyes said he was hopeful that LA Galaxy would agree to extend Landon Donovan's loan spell beyond the end of this month. The US captain has been a hit since his arrival at Goodison Park in January but had been due to return to Los Angeles at the end of March. "I'm keen to keep Landon and it sounds initially that they might say yes," Moyes said.

Balotelli: Samuel Eto'o faces stiff competition from Mario Balotelli for a starting place when leaders Inter face Genoa at home tomorrow. The Cameroon striker's poor form mean he is no longer guaranteed a start. Balotelli's impressive recent showings, meanwhile, have sparked a media campaign for Marcello Lippi to call him up to Italy's senior team for the World Cup.

Scotland: Scotland will play a friendly away to Sweden on August 11. The match follows on from Craig Levein's first fixture as Scotland manager, a 1-0 friendly in over the Czech Republic at Hampden Park on Wednesday.

Coyne: Australian international defender Chris Coyne said he has agreed terms with Chinese Super League club Liaoning Hongyun for a loan deal to keep his World Cup hopes alive. Coyne, 31, who has played seven internationals, will fly to China today where he hopes to play regular football in the lead up to the World Cup in South Africa in June.

Athletics: World record holders Kenenisa Bekele and Yelena Isinbayeva will join American standouts Tyson Gay and Sanya Richards in the July 3 Prefontaine Classic at Oregon. Ethiopian Bekele, the world's fastest at 5,000 and 10,000 metres, will run the shorter race while Russia's Isinbayeva will make her first outdoor US appearance in the pole vault at the IAAF Diamond League meeting.

Basket, NBA: Miami Heat overcame a 39-point effort from Kobe Bryant to capture a thrilling 114-111 overtime victory over Western Conference leaders Los Angeles Lakers (46-16). Jermaine O'Neal's basket gave Miami a 111-109 lead with 54 seconds remaining in overtime and the centre then drew a vital offensive foul on a driving Bryant as the Heat (31-31) closed out the game with three free-throws.

Golf: Japan's no.1 Ryo Ishikawa will miss next week's WGC-CA Championship event in Florida because he is attending his high school graduation. The 18-year-old will be in Tokyo on Monday for the ceremony.

Rugby Union: England flanker Lewis Moody confirmed yesterday he will leave Leicester to join Bath on a three-year contract at the end of the season. The 31-year-old, who made his professional debut with the Tigers in 1996, will arrive at the Recreation Ground in the summer.
