A teenager was yesterday charged with 13 thefts and muggings, which allegedly happened over a year.

The 17-year-old, who cannot be named because he is a minor, allegedly mugged four people and stole cash and various items from a number of nightclubs between February of last year and the end of last month.

He pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate Silvio Meli remanded him in custody after taking into consideration the fact that he was also charged with relapsing.

On leaving the court room, the teenager's father passed a comment at a police officer and the man had to be calmed down by two police inspectors as his son was taken away.

Another four teenagers were thought to have been involved in the muggings and the police were still investigating, sources said.

Police Inspector Keith Arnaud prosecuted.

Lawyer Veronique Dalli appeared for the accused.
