Gratitude to local council's ex-secretary

I would like to express my sincere thanks to Joseph Caruana for his hard work, dedication and contribution in the last seven years he has spent as the Marsascala local council's executive secretary.

I am more than convinced that with his transfer to another locality, that of Cospicua, Marsascala has lost an important asset, an honest, serious and trustworthy official who has always done his utmost by observing the laws and regulations, being responsible for the administration of the council. Undoubtedly, a great loss for the locality of Marsascala.

I would like to condemn the way his post was terminated, the way he was unfairly treated and above all the spiteful, libellous remarks made in his regard during the administrative public meeting held on February 19, simply because he ran the council "by the book" and scrutinised everything.

The irony of it all is that every year he was awarded top performance bonuses by the previous and present council out of admiration and appreciation for his work. I am sure the Marsascala residents appreciated his role as secretary to the council as being accountable and transparent.

Mr Caruana, you will be greatly missed.
