An SOS Malta team leaves for Haiti tomorrow morning to carry out a needs assessment and analyse the damage sustained by an orphanage run by the Sisters of Mother Teresa. It will also collaborate with the Salvation Army in the emergency work being carried out on the ground in Port au Prince.
The team, made up of David Grech, Mandy Micallef Grimaud and Olwyn Jo Saliba from Where’s Everybody will be met in Haiti’s capital by Bob Poff, the public relations and disaster services director of the Salvation Army.
SOS Malta said in a statement there was still a lot to be done in Haiti and the international community was being encouraged to put in more effort before the start of the rainy season in April. Water and sanitation are still a huge problem following the devastating earthquake which rocked the capital and there is a fear that cases of diarrhoea and other water-borne diseases will spread.
