Failed mission to see girlfriend
A Nigerian man was yesterday jailed for six months after he admitted to trying to leave the island using false travel documents on Tuesday. Marcos Johnson, 24, paid €500 for a false Italian residence card, a false passport and travel document when he tried to make his way by air to Catania.
He was caught at the airport's boarding gate. Magistrate Antonio Mizzi jailed him for the minimum period possible at law after taking into consideration that he tried to leave to see his girlfriend.
Police Inspector Edel Mary Camilleri prosecuted.

Fine reason to grant extenuating circumstances: He tried to see his girlfiend! Couldn't they have given each other a rendez-vous in Nigeria? Presumably they are both free to go there. Can Dr Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici tell us how many Nigerians are gettting free board and lodging in our prison at the expense of the Maltese taxpayer?
