Obilale: Togo goalkeeper Kodjovi Obilale will return to France after being treated in a South African hospital for gunshot wounds he received when the team's bus was ambushed in Angola in January. Obilale underwent surgery in Johannesburg after being evacuated from Angola following the attack on the bus carrying the national team to the Africa Cup. Obilale plays for French fourth division side Pontivy.

Slomka: Mirko Slomka has been assured his job as Hannover manager is safe for the match with Freiburg this weekend, despite losing his sixth-straight game on Sunday. A 1-0 defeat at home to Wolfsburg means Slomka has seen his side lose every single game since he replaced Andreas Bergmann as coach last month. "Slomka will be our coach in Freiburg," said club president Martin Kind to Sky television.

Arrested: Chinese police have received approval from state prosecutors to arrest the former head of the Chinese FA Nan Yong on bribery charges. The move, which follows his questioning in January, means Nan undergo criminal trial on the charges, which arise from an investigation into match-fixing in Chinese soccer.

Cameroon: Cameroon will play friendly matches against fellow World Cup finalists Slovakia on May 29 and Portugal on June 1. Cameroon will face Slovakia in Klagenfurt, Austria then head to Covilha in Portugal for their final warm-up match before travelling to South Africa for the World Cup.

Nakata: A pair of boots belonging to former Japan captain Hidetoshi Nakata have raised almost $1.5 million for Haiti's earthquake disaster relief. The boots Nakata wore against Croatia at the 2006 World Cup in Germany were auctioned off online to help relief efforts after the devastating Jan. 12 quake.

Gobbi: Fiorentina midfielder Massimo Gobbi has been banned from the Champions League for three matches after his red card for a high elbow in the Serie A side's last 16 first leg defeat at Bayern Munich last month. Fiorentina said they would appeal against the UEFA ban. If the appeal fails Gobbi will miss next week's return in Florence and both legs of the quarter-final in the event that Fiorentina progress.

Skiing: German Wolfgang Staiert has been sacked as coach of the Russian ski jumping team, paying the price for the team's poor showing at the Vancouver Olympics. Basket, NBA: Cleveland Cavaliers centre Shaquille O'Neal, 37, will undergo surgery to repair an injured right thumb. O'Neal was originally hurt in a game against the Boston Celtics last week and after further evaluation in Maryland, he was informed he would require an operation on the injury.
