Donna Andrews 23 from Marsa and her Libyan partner Isam Mohammed El SHahuni were today convicted of stealing an infant carrier from Mothercare and ordered to pay the costs in two instalments.

Ms Andrews was also placed on probation for two years while her partner was handed a six-month jail term suspended for two years.

Ms Andrews said that she lived on just €325 a month in social benefits and had three children. Her partner was also unemployed.

The court agreed that the infant carrier could be paid in two installments.

In a separate case, a postman, Mirana Azzopardi, 33 of Zejtun, was given a one-year conditional discharge after she admitted that she had delayed the delivery of a number of parcels.

The court was told that the parcels had arrived from abroad, but instead of promptly delivering them, Ms Azzopardi placed them in a deposit boy at Maltapost headquarters and left them there the following day, when she was off duty.
