Maltese embassies in the first two months of this year reported 250 contacts by companies are individuals abroad interested in investing in Malta, twice the number in the same month last year.

The Foreign Ministry said embassies had a crucial role to play as the first point of contact between potential investors and Malta. Any expressions of interest are followed up with Malta Enterprise and employers' associations in Malta.

Foreign Minister Tonio Borg said Malta had continued to attract investment interest despite the international recession and he was continuing to urge embassies to be Malta's showcase.

He said that the Foreign Ministry was seeking to assist investment flows through the negotiation of more double taxation agreements.
