It is true that there is much room for improvement but I sincerely believe that the government is right to place employment high on its agenda. Nothing else is more important to an individual than the opportunity to work. Employment generates more employment and the economy and stability of a country together with a healthy environment is what attracts foreign investment. In fact, local and foreign investment continues to grow; job losses in the private sector is one of the lowest in Europe, as is our deficit.

Malta's situation is definitely not as bleak as Labour would have us believe.

All we have to do is have a look around us, open our eyes and ears and start appreciating the fact that we are not foundering like most of our European counterparts. Malta has just been given an A1 rating by the international credit agency Moody's for its "high economic resiliency and its very high financial robustness".

I think that it is time for Labour to look at the bigger picture, stop whining and start cooperating to safeguard what the government has achieved so far.
