So shall we set up a court for crimes as for pigeons pooping on cars & people as well. This might be very interesting, then falcons and buzzards will be employed as law enforcment officers or police against feathered law offenders : ) )
Personally I feel sorry and I give my condolences to the victim's family , but everyone who knows his job very well also is aware of the risks involved.

killer whales are wild animals....they live in open oceans not in tanks! let them free poor things! this is torture towards these animals!

I suggest beheading the Killer Whale...
It has shown gross ingratitude towards its trainer...
It has proven itself to be unworthy of the love, care and hospitality it was provided with for free for so many years. Out in the wild it would probably have been dead by now anyway.
However, it now only deserves a DEATH SENTENCE.

The trainer surely knew the risks involved. The same Orca had already killed its trainer few years back and is the alleged killer of a homeless man.
We consider ourselves wise beings, but since we domesticated the first animal thousands of years ago we still abuse them for our amusment forcing unnatural behaivour rather then enjoying watching them in their natural habitat.
I'm sorry for the trainer who surely loved its killer but I feel the same compassion for such creature deprived from a life in its natural habitat.

I hate to say this but as we say in Maltese: "Haqqkhom!" Whales are wild animals. Using them for the amusement of the great unwashed is asking for trouble. How dare people enslave these wonderful and intelligent creatures? I find the people who pay money to watch these 'shows' despicable because they are encouraging horrific practices. I went whale watching once and the experience was beyond words as I watched for hours a mother whale play with her daughter in the wild while I was a non interfering observer.
I am against the enslavement of any animal. I only keep a dog because it was born and nobody wanted to take care of it (I adopted him from Island sanctuary but am against the breeding of dogs or cats for pets) and I know that he is happy with me because when I let him run loose he eventually comes back to me. I also know that without me he would not survive.

What I would like to add is just because us humans have superior brains we think we can control everything. Even 5 tonne animals like killer whales and elephants.
I think that when you enter in a cage or pool with such a powerful animal its like playing Russian roulette. All it takes is 30 seconds (or less) for one of the animals I mentioned and thats it. So if a lets say an elephant freaks out (just like people freak out), just for a minute.. the results will be in someone loosing his or her life for sure.
Its us humans at fault... as usual.
The whale was trying to act normal.. like a whale.. not like a 4 tonne clown.

@Jfarrugia - your comment might have been misinterpreted.
Animals have their psyche after following this incident on the media read about other similar incidents, I got to learn more.
In the first place - REAL animal lovers don't want to watch wild animals performing stupid stunts in pools. I can barely stand watching a bird in a cage. This whale's confinement is equivalent of a person locked in a bathtub. Animals have instinct and tempers and I strongly believe that they have no place as performers, I'm sorry. Zoos, Circuses with animals, etc I have reservations about.
However, you have a valid point - animals remain unpredictable, and this is why I advocate that whenever dogs are taken out to public places these should be muzzled (readers please dont start the argument comparing chihuahuas with german shepherds!!). No matter how trained and social the beast can be. Even if you are the owner of a faithful dog, it will still not let you touch its food or sometimes go anywhere near its litter. So, yes, there I agree with you - animals will remain animals.

I was, and am still, very saddened by this incident but the Orca is a (huge) wild animal and it is being kept in a pen. So who is to blame? SeaWorld and its clients. And that includes many Maltese who saw the show and were amazed. You want to see whales? Go on a whale watching trip. If you get lucky you might see something (real).
As to some comparing people murdering people with this I say do not be ridiculous. People have control over their actions whereas an animal's instinct is innate.

A killer whale is exactly that, a killer.
Its natural environment is the open seas not aquariums.

@J Farrugia
What do you mean by "annimal annimal jibqa"?
It underlines the fact that these animals shouldnt be enclosed in such restricted, small spaces and forced to do shows.
