The Historic Motorcycle Club Malta is holding its annual exhibition of historic motorcycles tomorrow and on Sunday. Some 60 motorcycles dating from the beginning of the 20th century to the mid-1970s are being exhibited at the Muscat Motors showroom in Gżira.

The club emphasises that such an exhibition is not merely a lifeless collection of old metal, but is more of a snapshot of nearly a century of technological progress and social development. Dedicated enthusiasts utilise many skills to restore and keep these mechanical treasures in fine condition, notwithstanding the many difficulties they encounter.

Famous marques from Britain, Italy, the US and other countries are used regularly and a number of them have even been on club runs abroad. Most of these machines like Triumph, BSA, Ducati, Moto Guzzi, Matchless, Ariel and Jawa are still household names.

The Historic Motorcycle Club Malta was founded in 1989 and numbers about 60 members. It organises a number of motorcycling and social events during the year and in March will be hosting its second International Motorcycling Tour of Malta with a number of riders from Sicily and northern Italy visiting. The club is a founder member of the Federazzjoni Maltija Vetturi Antiki (FMVA) and is affiliated with the Vintage Motorcycle Club (VMCC) of Great Britain.

The exhibition, to which entrance is free, will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Fatboy

By John Clancy (2004 Edinburgh Festival Fringe First Award) produced by Ideas Alive and directed by Michael Fenech. This highly entertaining satire about greed is inspired by Alfred Jarry’s Ubu Roi comments about our insatiable appetite to gobble everything from steak to small nations. Meaner than Stalin, hungrier than Idi Amin, deadlier than Pol Pot, he is the grotesque composite of every despot who ever lived... he is also savagely funny. The brutish Fatboy stands trial for war crimes. Despite overwhelming evidence, the court refuses to convict and succumbs to Fatboy’s persuasive tactics. Showing at St James Cavalier, Valletta. Shows start at 8 p.m.
