Simonds Farsons Cisk was yesterday given the go-ahead to build a brew-house worth €14 million at their brewery in Mrieħel.
The company received a full development permit for a new brewing and water treatment plant.
The new buildings will take up almost 2,900 square metres of the Farsons site covering a total area of 69,000 square metres.
The project forms part of a major investment announced by the company in 2005, which is spread over six years in three capital projects.
The extension will be the last phase of this major makeover, which has also seen the construction of a soft drinks packaging hall and a new distribution centre at a cost of €24.5 million.
The building that now forms the main brewery will eventually be freed up and Farsons are planning to make good use of it as a possible business park for the financial services industry.
