PL to contest elections in hamlets
The Labour Party said today that it will participate in next month's elections of administrative committees in hamlets in Malta and Gozo.
The PL said it had decided to take part in the elections so that it could be of service to society at all levels. However the party executive felt that the elections should be an expression of the will of the people and not simply an excuse for another election.
The party will therefore be meeting families individually but will not hold a national campaign.
The PN has already said it will contest the elections.

I would like to appeal to the P.N., P.L. and Alternativa Demokratika - but especially to Parliamentary Secretary Chris Said and the Hon. Prime Minister to give Qawra and Bugibba their own Mini Local Council.
The reasons have been explained by a number of residents living in these two areas who sent in letters in the same vein as this request.
In a nutshell: the St. Paul's Bay Local Council has failed rather miserably to look after the particular interests of these two tourism places. The largest tourism establishments are in Qawra and Bugibba rather than in St. Paul's Bay. The particular needs of these places requires Council representation directly from these areas.
Surely Parliamentary Secretary Mario DeMarco will very probably be the first to agree that these crucially important places deserve being looked after well,
So why not grant the wishes of the residents of Qawra and Bugibba by giving them their own representatives?
I hope this appeal will at least be properly considered. Not from the political perspectives but from the social and touristic angles.
