Gnr Psaila's parents want answers, one year on
One year after Gunner Matthew Psaila died during a military exercise in Chadwick Lakes, his parents, Marion and Twanny, are still trying to come to terms with what happened.
Because of what happened and the ensuing court proceedings, Matthew's comrades have been reluctant to share their experience, but the family yearn to learn more about his last hours.
Mrs Psaila says: "There are times when in my mind I walk with Matthew through his last moments, wading through the water, but then I get to the bridge and I stop there - that's the missing link of the puzzle."
Her husband adds: "Nobody is going to bring Matthew back. What we want is that justice is done with Matthew; justice that Matthew didn't die in a ‘misadventure'."
The 19-year-old gunner died after finding himself underwater during army training on February 13, 2009 - a bitterly cold day. This exercise, with the army's C (Special Duties) Company, would have seen the soldiers qualify for the BIII infantry course.
In an interview with Ariadne Massa on the first anniversary from his death, Matthew's parents speak about how the clock stopped ticking and "nothing can ever be the same again".

And who could blame them for wanting justice...they lost a major part of their life!

A very tragic story indeed. My deepest sympathy to the Psaila Family.
Due to the circumstances of this very tragic event, this family is finding the Bereavement Process very very hard. I urge upon the authorities and people concerned to show most respect here, but also understanding, too. They are the ones who are suffering the most here.
Once again, with my deepest respect.

I can understand how you feel & nobody will ever tell you the truth as they did with my brother that died on the line of duty almost 28 years ago, the grief & pain that we suffered will never heal especially my mum,am refering to PC515 that he was suppose to be supervised at the shooting range in the PHQ! The truth is out there but who was involved know what happened.May your son & our Paul rest in peace & hope that the authorities will pay the prize & make sure that history want repeats itself. You are still greatly missed Paul.
