Feast of St Paul in Munxar

Gozo Bishop Mario Grech led a prayer meeting, including Mass, in front of St Paul's Shipwreck parish church, Munxar, last Tuesday on the occasion of the feast of St Paul.

During the homily, Mgr Grech spoke on the importance of St Paul's visit to Malta, comparing the event with that of other special occasions such as Independence Day, Freedom Day, Republic Day and Malta's entry to the EU.

He said St Paul's shipwreck meant that from a pagan civilisation, Malta passed on to a Christian state.

Mgr Grech called on everyone to pray so that the forthcoming visit to Malta by Pope Benedict would help motivate the country towards renewing its faith.

As a symbolic gesture, Mgr Grech lit a bonfire to mark 1950 years since St Paul's shipwreck.
