In future, handwriting will simply die out or become a rare art known by only a talented few, according to some pupils who took part in a recently-held competition. The contestants were asked what they thought would happen to handwriting in future.
Over 200 pupils aged between nine and 11 took part in the Stabilò move easy handwriting competition , which was open to all primary schools in Malta and run by Stabilò agents Golden Gate Ltd.
Other contestants said handwriting would eventually be prohibited, while others went as far as to predict that magical pens would be invented that would not only read minds and put thoughts to paper but also correct mistakes.
At the award ceremony held at the Intercontinental Hotel, St Julian's, Carla Vella was declared the overall individual winner and won a €150 voucher from a stationery in Sliema, while St Joseph School, Sliema, was awarded €150 voucher worth of office and school supplies as the winning school. The other winners from each participating school were given token prizes.
Children's author Trevor Zahra, judged the competition and presented the awards.
