Equipment donated to veterinary clinic
Animals in need of medical attention will benefit from medical equipment donated to a popular voluntary veterinary clinic by a local private hospital.
The ultrasound machine, defibrillator and two infusion pumps, which have been decommissioned but are still in working order, were donated to the Happy Paws Veterinary Clinic in Cross Road, Marsa by Saint James Hospital.
Frederick Attard, the hospital's marketing manager, said the idea to donate the equipment was suggested a few weeks ago by an employee whose daughter volunteered at the clinic.
"The idea was to check what hospital equipment was being decommissioned and still functioning and donate it to the clinic instead of scrapping it," he said.
"We are pleased they can still be used to save the lives of animals in need and we are committing ourselves to donating further equipment in future," he continued.
Maike Beekman, the clinic's manager, thanked the hospital and assured it would be put to good use right away.
The clinic, which opened two years ago, caters specifically for stray dogs and cats and receives those animals rescued by the animal ambulances.

Well done to all at St. James Hospital. A truly wise decision to donate this much needed equipment rather than scrapping it.
Unlike the Maltese government who continues to refuse to waive off dues on two vehicles donated to the Saint Francis Foundation for animals by foreigners to be exclusively used as animal ambulances to rush sick, injured and abandoned animals to veterinarians.
The so called "GOOD CAUSES FUND" was used - around EUR40,000 to fund the purchase of a WWII howitzer last year and only two days ago an amount of EUR30,000 were disbursed to fund another war toy called a TIGER MOTH.
An insensitive Minister of Finance and an insensitive government.

Well Done St.James! Happy Paws is surely a very deserving association. I hope others will follow this example.
