GoL welcomes Maltese MEPs vote against abortion
Expresses disappointment at Casa's absence
Gift of life has applauded Maltese MEPS for their pro-life vote on the Tarabella Rapport.
However, it expressed disappointment that MEP David Casa did not vote on the amendments presented as he was not present.
"Our Island has a very small voice in Europe on these issues and every vote in favour of human life from conception is precious," it said.
On Wednesday, the Maltese MEPs voted against an article that “emphasises that women must have control over their sexual and reproductive rights” another saying this would be available “through easy access to contraception and abortion” and another which “emphasises that women must have access free of charge to consultation on abortion".

I agree with GOL that life is something of a great value and that its value doesn't rely on the extent that it brings pleasure and well-being. Suffering and pain do not stop life being valuable and are not a reason for ending life. That being said life and death are both God's gift to show us his presence. So any aggressive medical means to either preserve life or end life are a denial from the natural human condition in the face of life or death. Killing someone deliberately is immoral but allowing a patient to die naturally is acceptable while letting someone live on life supported machines is simply a kind of human intervention and not a git from God.

Since when have "sexual and reproductive rights” been the concern of anyone other than two responsible parents, one mother and one father, lest we forget? It's almost as if the European Commission are trying to turn European women into post-modern Gorgon sisters, with Greek mythology as the de facto religion of a new superstate.

On abortion even if 100% are pro-abortion, abortion must never be legalised...for here we are talking of lifes of other people...who has the right to say who shall live and who shall die...are we to become Nazis again??? Yes, for stopping the legalising of abortion we are ready for a Holy War...in its true meaning...so to defend the innocent..
People fight and make crazy things for animals...why not for human beings? EU is ridiculous when stopping hunting but than legalize abortion...disgusting

Hats off to the Maltese MEPs who voted for life! It makes me feel proud to be Maltese. It is in moments like these that Malta, in spite of its small size, can serve as a moral beacon to Europe. Lead on, and God bless!

Gerry Cowie,
You seem to have a problem distinguishing between pro-abortion and pro-choice. I'm hoping you are not stupid enough to be equating one with the other. Your assertion throughout all abortion -orientated blogs is that life begins at conception, unfortunately many many people would and do disagree with you on that. Its significant that you, as a male, are so insistent on exerting control over the body of a female. If an embryo, i.e ball of cells no developed brain, is a human you would have to disagree with the concept of someone being brain dead.? Are you no longer human when you're brain stops functioning? or when your body starts decomposing?

Go on GOL. Condemn David Casa. If he was on the PL ticket you would have probably accused him of being pro abortion.

All those who stand up for human life expect to receive opposition from those who are pro-abortion. A collective voice is vital. And who wants to vote for a parliamentary candidate who has no clear respect for life? Everybody is a pressure group of one in that respect. Those clamouring for freedom must remember that freedom does not include the freedom to kill an unborn child, for instance. All those below who are bellowing against the work of GOL should remember that they are alive today because their own parents chose life for them. This is not a party political issue as such, so I am not sure why people are drawing that conclusion. "Live and let live" is another phrase much overused. Surely this means live and allow unborn children to live also? Which side of the fence is J Schembri on? Why stop speaking out? That is real sour grapes on this person's part. Pressure is needed on politicians who have the power to decide upon life and death issues which affect everybody. Either you are pro life or against life (which includes the politically correct "pro-choice" lobby! How can one "overdo" protecting the right to live itself?

@J Farrugia I am not asking your age but probably you were not around when a Nationalist government banned Labour's newspaper "Il-Helsien" from distribution in government hospitals. AS regards vindictive transfers you should know that Eddie Fennech Adami's cry for reconciliation was translated in no less than 1400 transfers in the public service. Just check your facts before you place your comments please. Yes hell would have broken loose had one Labour MEP been absent on this vote. David Casa owes an explanation. Was he sick or busy elsewhere?

L-MEP Nazzjonalista David Casa ghandu jispjega lill-poplu Malti r-ragunijiet tal-assenza tieghu fuq dan il-vot. Dan qed nghidu bi dritt ghall-fatt li meta kien hemm ufficjal gholi tal-PL li wera opinjoni personali dwar dan is-suggett, fil-pajjiz qam plejtu shih, filwaqt li issa ghax ghandna ufficjal tal-PN jaghmel l-istess bicca xoghol, qisu qatt ma gara xejn!! Din x'serjeta' hi? Il-PM ghandu jwiegeb ghal dawn il-hmerijiet. Ma ninsewx li dan l-istess Deputat Parlamentari waqa' ghac-cajt meta ghamel mistoqsija banali lill-Kummissarju Ewropew. Il-PN ghandu jara x'kandidati jkollu ghall-elezzjoni tal-PE ghax qed jispicca jaghmel froga kull darba li tigi din l-elezzjoni.

When I see or hear the GoL people I feel like changing my views on abortion and becoming pro choice. I no longer speak against abortion because I don't want to be associated with such people.

Can GOL declare that it is against all killings - including civilians and soldiers in wars? Only then will they show their mettle. Maybe they say wars are necessary - such as holy wars/crusades against abortion!!!!!!!!!!!!

Profs this is a democratic country where every citizen has a right to do and say whatever he wants even if idiotic. Or do you want us to go back to the time of your stewardship of the Labour party where no one could hold In-Nazzjon Taghna in his hands, or when vindicative transfers were the order of the day for those who did not see eye to eye with Labour policies? So get a life and let the people say what they want. No one had ever shut your mouth. So PLEASE ... live and let live without imposing anything on anyone of us. As for those who are hounding David Casa for his absence, I cannot speak for him, but could he have been sick? So why is GOL going to extremes? I am all for the aims of GOL and have even signed the petition, but when someone overdoes it, then its the end of the road for the NGO. Don't play with fire. Don't let me regret the signature I forwarded for a just and noble cause. We are not in a crusade.

I think its time that the people have a vote on the issues of abortion and divorce. Let the people decide!
