Some 150,000 recycling sacks are being distributed to households within councils working with GreenPak to promote “Recycling on Tuesday” by Green Dot Malta, the operators of the scheme.
An extensive educational campaign underpinning this initiative was launched today at the Kalkara council.
Green Dot representatives will visit Kalkara households to raise awareness on the importance of recycling and separating waste, encouraging them to start or to continue with their recycling committment.
As an added incentive, the recycling advisors will give out a free roll of green sacks to every Kalkara household together with a leaflet with an educational message, explaining the small changes that could be made.
Kalkara mayor Michael Cohen said this was a unique opportunity not only for the people of Kalkara but also for hte future generation.
“I am confident that residents will co-operate and the results will be encouraging. With a little bit of effort Kalkara will be on the top list of percentage recycling from all over the island,” he said.
GreenPak CEO Mario Schembri said, “GreenPak has always believed that the key to success to increasing recycling participation is through education which creates awareness and encourages participation.
“Through our investment in this extensive education campaign, we are aiming to increase Malta’s recycling tonnage rates and boost recycling participation rates so that the council can reduce the amount of waste being sent to the landfill.”
