Oranges don't always translate into orange juice - €13,500 in aid of Haiti were squeezed out of the Citrus Festival held at San Anton earlier this month.

President George Abela presented the cheque to Fr Eric Cachia, who is in charge of the fund collection in aid of the rebuilding of Salesian schools in Haiti.

Dr Abela thanked all those who made the event a success, saying 6,800 kilos of oranges were sold along with other produce and items from the stands put up by Naturalment Malti and local councils, among others.

The Salesians are providing shelter for 30,000 people who lost their homes in the Haiti earthquake, which took place a month ago.
