Prime Minister thanks John Dalli
Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi has thanked EU Commissioner John Dalli for his service to Malta as an MP, a parliamentary secretary and a minister.
Dr Gonzi, who was replying to Mr Dalli's letter of resignation from the Cabinet, said that Mr Dalli had been a central element in Malta's recent economic and social development and his work was bearing fruit for the people.
Dr Gonzi said he was confident that Mr Dalli's work would be similarly beneficial for the European Union.

It was so good of the Hon. Prime Minister to thank outgoing Minister John Dalli.
Indeed Mr Dalli was ''a central element in Malta's recent economic and social development'' and he was man enough to point out where specific problems - especially those connected with the rather rampant abuse in the Social Services sector - lay.
If I remember correctly John Dalli once declared that the Ministry for Gozo has too many government employees working in it, implying of course that the situation is not financially sustainable and requires downsizing.
It remains to be seen whether Dalli's work and recommendations will be assiduously followed up by the P.M. or just put on the back burner to avoid possibly negative political repercusions...such as the loss of votes during elections.
Hopefully this won't be the case...but only time will tell.

As expected, there was no apology for the way John Dalli was treated by the PN.
