No new faces expected in Cabinet reshuffle

Dolores Cristina will return to the Social Policy Ministry and Giovanna Debono will move to the Education Ministry as part of a reshuffle expected to be announced this week in the wake of John Dalli's resignation from the Cabinet, informed sources have said.

The sources said Parliamentary Secretary Joseph Cassar is expected to be promoted to Minister of Health, with health being hived off the Social Policy Ministry.

Parliamentary Secretary Chris Said, currently responsible for public dialogue, is likely to become Minister of Gozo but retain ministerial responsibility for local councils.

The moves will mean that there will be no new faces around the Cabinet table.

Mr Dalli is expected to step down after the European Parliament votes in the new European Commission this afternoon.

Mrs Cristina had succeeded Lawrence Gonzi at the helm of the Ministry of Social Policy in 2004 before moving to education after the last election.

Mrs Debono has been the Minister for Gozo since 1998, while Dr Said was elected to Parliament for the first time in the 2008 general election.
