Crime involves so many people - in different fashions.
The worst being, the victims of the same robberies - being twelve in this case. This not being a solitary case. Worrying, annoying, shocking, damaging and so many other negative effects on those people who were not only robbed of their personal possessions and belongings ... but more of their sense of security and serenity. Their peace of mind is seriously disturbed and removed.
It is shocking to read such a report.
But it is likewise shocking to learn that the youth responsible was only 17 at the time of the commission of hte crime. This should worry society and it's memebers, knowing that this is not an isolated case.
And even more worying is the fear that the years spent in jail may not be the best to reform him - render his re-integration into society smooth and more permanent.
Is carceration in Malta at present obtaining optimum results where reform is concerned..
This subject deserves a national debate - and that as soon as possible.
Is character reform just a theory or an accademic utopia - or can we boast that we are succesful in this regard.
