Salesians, Jesuits in drive for Haiti
Two religious orders have teamed up to help victims of the Haiti earthquake through a fundraising event that will take place on Wednesday. The money collected will mainly be used to help rebuild the Salesian schools hit hard by the earthquake.
Two religious orders have teamed up to help victims of the Haiti earthquake through a fundraising event that will take place on Wednesday.
The money collected will mainly be used to help rebuild the Salesian schools hit hard by the earthquake. Three-quarters of the funds will be given to the Salesians in Haiti while 25 per cent will support Jesuit relief aid.
The day-long "Haiti Cries" event will be held at St Aloysius College sports grounds in Birkirkara between 10 a.m. and 6.30 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at 5 p.m.
The activities will include football and table tennis tournaments, a Bring and Buy book stall, creative writing competitions, talks on contemporary understanding of suffering, a prayer tent, a painting area, an audio-visual presentation zone with news updates, hair braiding, hourly drum workshops, an outdoor kids' area as well as a story-telling corner for children.
Go will be setting up an SMS system to receive donations from the public on the day.
SMS donations may be sent to three numbers - 5061 8092 for a donation of €4.66, 5061 8912 for a donation of €6.99 and 5061 9209 for a donation of €11.65.
Donations can also be made to HSBC account 0851 1199 5050 and BoV account 400 1876 3823. Cheques may be made payable to Fr Eric Cachia, Salesian Oratory, 20 Karm Galea Street, Sliema, or to JRS Malta, St Aloysius Sports Complex, 50 Xorrox Street, Birkirkara. Donation boxes will be set up on site.
