Mepa issues stop notice against Inland Revenue Department
Mepa issued a stop notice against the Inland Revenue Department after some wooden windows were replaced by aluminium structures, the Prime Minister has confirmed in Parliament.
Dr Gonzi said internal refurbishment of Block IV at Floriana was covered by a permit issued in June.
But last December the Mepa enforcement section noticed that external aperatures were being replaced by aluminium structures.
The IR Department was ordered to stop the works immediately. A meeting between Mepa and IR Department officials was held last month when the nature of the replacement aparatures was discussed.
On January 20 the department submitted a notification notice to replace the aluminium structures with wooden ones.

Did MEPA stipulate that no aluminium apertures were allowed? If so, there is no question, whoever gave the go ahead for the fixing of aluminium apertures should be held accountable and refund straightaway to Government the amount involved. If he fails to do so disciplinary action should be initiated to recoup the said amount. There is no other choice if accountability is to be enforced.

Epic!
At least, MEPA enforcement seems in good shape.

We had to abide with the same rules just opposite the building in question. I hope that IRD will be made to replace these illegal windows. What bothers me though is the waste of our money because of lack of proper planning by IRD.
