Xaghra council to rebuild civic centre

The Xaghra Civic Centre has been passed on to the local council to demolish and rebuild.
Lands Parliamentary Secretary Jason Azzopardi said the project was an ambitious one and offered big challenges. But the government had confidence in councils and non-governmental organisations and each devolution carried out reflected the value of subsidiarity.
Dr Azzopardi, who was accompanied by the Parliamentary Secretary for Public Dialogue Chris Said, also visited a property in Qala which had been passed on to the council to turn into a folklore museum.
Dr Said said that the devolution of a civic centre to a council would help bring the council closer to the community through its services.
In Qala, he praised the council’s vision and dedication and said that the council had received €25,000 from a special funds scheme for the purpose.

The right to celebratge the 11th of February 1799 as the most important day on the calendar of the council. (establishment of the very first Assemblea Nazionale Legislattiva (provisional Government) at Casa Leone, in Casale San Guiseppe, the former name of Hamrun, by Notary Emmanuele Vitale and Canon Francesco Saverio Caruana, and presided by Captain Alexander Ball, representative of the King of Naples and elected 22 other patriots to represent each town and village) This day put our town on the Map of Malta.

Nixtieq nifrah lill-Kunsill Lokali Xaghra ghal din l-inizjattiva li qed jiehu favur ir-residenti. Minn meta dan il-Kunsill Lokali beda jitmexxa minn maggoranza Laburista f'Marzu 2007, id-differenza fil-lokalita' qeghdin narawha llum. Kuntrarju ghal dak li kien qed jigri fis-snin l-imghoddija, illum ghandna Kunsill Lokali habrieki li qed iwarrab l-interessi partiggjani u jpoggi l-gid komuni bhala l-prijorita' fil-hidma tieghu. Nirringrazzja lis-Sindku s-Sur Joe Cordina u l-kunsilliera kollha li qed jahdmu id f'id mieghu... Dan il-bniedem ghandu vizjoni ghar-rahal taghna u jaf jiehu decizjonijiet, li ghalkemm forsi jidhru iebsin biex wiehed iwettaqhom, id-determinazzjoni tieghu u ta' dawk il-haddiema li jikkoperaw mieghu qed twassal ghal Xaghra ahjar. Dan il-progett huwa wiehed minn sensiela ta' xoghlijiet li ghaddejjin bhalissa fir-rahal taghna... Il-Kunsill Lokali Xaghra jista' jiftahar li hu tabilhaqq Kunsill qrib ic-cittadin! Hasra li xi kultant il-burokrazija li nsibu fid-Dipartimenti t'Ghawdex ma tghinx biex jinkiseb il-massimu tas-success imma s-sinjali pozittivi qeghdin hemm!

This looks very much like a village core site. If so it should not be demolished. Anyway even if it's not in the village core it is lovely façade and it should be preserved. How do people who should know much better come up with such absurd ideas escapes me. No wonder much of Malta is getting ruined.
