Naxxar local council said today that it was objecting to plans by the Island Car Club to hold its Sprint Event in the car park of the fair grounds on February 21 between 9 am. and 3 p.m.
The council said the site where the event was planned did not fall within the responsibility of Associationthe Trade Fair Exhibitors, the new organisers of the trade fair.
The planned activity would create noise which would be an inconvenience to neighbours for a length of time. The neighbours included a home for the elderly and a pastoral centre, and the celebration of Mass would be affected
Furthermore an activity such as this attracted many people, creating traffic congestion and parking problems. The activity would also block some access roads into the town.
The council said the holding of the activity would violate the local plan and were it to be held, it would set a precedent for future activities in the zone.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for the organisers regretted the council's views and said the council was objecting to an activity which would help raise funds for charity.
