Forensics experts examine vehicle used in casino hold-up
A Pajero 4x4 vehicle believed to have been used during yesterday's hold-up of Casino' di Venezia in Vittoriosa was lifted out of the sea below Fort St Angelo this morning and forensics experts are conducting initial examinations.
The thieves are believed to have dashed from the casino' to the edge of the quay at Fort St Angelo in the Pajero. They then drove the vehicle into the sea and escaped on a speedboat.
The Pajero is believed to have been stolen. (The vehicle was initially thought to be white because the roof is of a lighter colour than the body)
The police conducted an intensive search for the boat along Malta's coast until late at night but it was not found.
An AFM helicopter helped in the search while a patrol boat conducted searches further offshore.
The spectacular hold-up took place at about 7.15 p.m. when the armed and hooded men surprised the casino staff. They demanded cash and escaped with a haul which the police said was 'considerable.'
Initial reports put the haul at €100,000 but informed sources said it was much bigger.

The purpose of Tinted Windows are for the simple reason to keep the car cooler in the summer months and hence not putting a strain on the a/c. It keeps the sun out of the car and helps the car to cool faster. That is what tinted windows are used for abroad....and they are LEGAL !
In Malta, tinted windows are only used by people who want to make their cars look nicer.

Adrian M.,
Nahseb li inti bhali issuq kuljum. Jien nigba nara vetturi li tant it-tinted glass ikun skur li ma tarax lil min ikun qed isuq. Allura dawn il-vetturi kollha m'ghaddewx mit-test tal-VRT? Hafna minnhom huma vetturi moderni bhal dik tar-ritratt. Jista jkun li jkunu hargu mill-fabriki hekk allura l-ADT ma tistax taghmel mod iehor?

Naqbel ma Anthony Dimech, ghaliex il-Pulizija ma tiehux passi kontra min ghandu karozza bit-tinted glass? Din mhux xi haga mohbija, facli tibda tinfurza xi haga ghax kullhadd jista jarahom jiggerrew ma kullimkien, hgieg iswed li tiskanta kif is-"sewwieq" jara jsuq. Issa moda gdida habba l-ispeed cameras, hafna qed jaqilghu n-number plate ta` wara halli jkunu jistghu jitqazzu u jsuqu bl-addocc u ma jinqabdux u hadd ma jrid jiehu passi. Mela vera hadd ma jrid jaghmel xejn f'dan il-pajjiz hlief isarraf is-salarju fl-ahhar tax-xahar? Hemm bzonn li ndahhlu naqra serjeta` ghax karnival shih gejna mhux ta` xejn qed jigu barranin u jaghmlu l-hold-ups, easy money ghalihom.

I fully agree with those who are connecting this professional hold up with S'VENERA CASH Van. I add more and connect this with HSBC BALZAN. IN both occasions thieves used 'bullet proof' vests.
SInce HSBC BALZAN holdup i believed that this was not 100% Maltese job. We r not used to this professional holdups (with bullet proof vests, timed holdups). Also the cash van hold up was well planned involving around 8 stolen vehicles.
Yesterdays holdup could be connected. Probably the thieves went directly to sicily with the speedboat. These mysterious people did it again. I believe that a maltese/italian group are acting jointly.

Its possible this crime was committed by foreigners. But if the police lack adequate investigative resources (as appears to be the case), then egos should be set aside or budgets raised, and help sought from scotland yard or other sources.
I support our police, but its obvious there's a strong need to boost their investigative resources - and results as we have too many crimes unsolved. Not only serious crimes such as letterbombs and bank robberies, but even national vandalism such as the paint on porte des bombes (repeated and with cctv in place, no less), the vandalism of the temples, etc. Is it possible that none of the perpetrators left any marks at all or made incriminating mistakes? For instance how do people destroy a large masgar or vandalise temples without leaving shoe imprints in the soil or other identifying traces? Given their political nature, I dont imagine it was well-organised super-criminals who committed these acts too.
As for the security guard, seems its become a characterisitc of bouncers to either use too much force, or use it on the wrong persons. About time employers started looking for brains as well as brawn...

This shows how vulnerable the Island is. Fast boats can make it in and out without out being intercepted.
Never mind this one case what about the future cases. Is there a plan for the security of the island? If a mirror burglary happens today can the authorities fight back?

Anthony Dimech, tinted glass is in the VRT test and vehicles with tinted glass fail the VRT. I think what you meant to say is the Authorities have to interrogate for attempted theft every driver of a car they see passing with tinted glass... I don’t see what VRT have to do with the subject.

I wonder where the valiant casino employee who assaulted the Times photographer was when his working place was being robbed. Maybe he was gathering the courage to punch to the ground a dangerous journalist armed to the theet with a deadly biro and a camera. Shame on him, whoever he was.

they will never be found. I am of the opinion that it was the same international group of burglers who tried the Sta Venera Haul without success, but this time it was better planned, in the evening and with full support from the water side. I think the investigators should concentrate their investigations by viewing all webcams available for the Grand Harbour as well as checking all records of the GH marina for information about which luxury yacht/cabin cruiser which was berthed near what used to be the Chinese quarters of the said marina in the morning and left at around 4.00 p.m in the afternoon. A white luxury cabin cruiser. It is my opinion that the escape boat left the territorial waters to join this luxury yacht in the open sea

Wahda mill-ikbar problema li ghadna Malta li hi it-"Tinted Glass".
Dawn l-affarjiet iridu jaraw l-awtoritajiet fuq vetturi li jitilghu ghall-VRT u mhux ghax ikollhok l-ilma tal-wipers ma jahdiem ma jghddiekx mill-VRT imbaghad ikollhok hgieg iswed izjed milli jkun iswed kulur il-Karozza u tghaddi!
