Shipyard's privatisation will create new jobs - PN
The privatisation of the shipyard will increase investment and create new jobs, the Nationalist Party said.
The party said in a statement that in spite of the Labour leader’s allegations 15 days ago that the shipyard was to be sold for less than €6 million, just the ship repair part of it was being sold for €67.8 million. Another €12.4 million were offered for the Manoel Island Yacht Yard.
Rather than forking out money to subsidise the shipyards, the country would now be making money and creating more productive jobs, the PN said.

If all of the jobs mentioned by the nationalist party were true, we would be employing the whole of the european workforce

I'll be waiting for the figures. let history repeats itself. 4000 new jobs, hundreds of apprentices each year and a lot of sub-contracting which overall used to support app. 6000 families. BDW these were all maltese families. at one time there used to be more than 20 ships for repair. For this the taxpayer subsidized the drydocks.

If the same workers who received thousands of Euros to leave the dry-docks decide to return, will they have to pay back this amount?

I agree that this sale (given the circumstances) is good etc.. And I totally disagree with Labour coming out against the sum/sale. Ma jafux x'qed jghidu, bhas-soltu.
However - I cannot agree with PN about jobs it will create unless someone assures me that the contract of sale stipulates that workers must be Maltese or EU citizens.
I am sure the jobs will be taken up by 3rd party country citizens (like eastern/Afican low salaried people).
So unless you PN guys say that there is a special condition about jobs being given to locals/EU don't come out harping that jobs will be created.
(I do understand there will be secondary jobs that might be created as other local companies service the new entity, but I am refering to the specific Jobs at the entity and proof that no Maltese / EU citizen was found capable of doing the job required)

You're right. Jobs for those experienced tradesmen you paid so handsomely to leave their last job at the Drydocks. What goes round ......
