The Finance Ministry has denied claims in a newspaper that Palumbo SpA, the preferred bidder for the ship repair facilities of Malta Shipyards, wanted to acquire the Superyacht Yard as a condition to buying the dockyard.

The ministry said that in terms of the call for offers for the privatisation of the shipyard, such a request could not be made.

The ministry also dismissed the figures quoted by the newspaper about the revenue the government was expected to have from the rental of the facilities and the sale of machinery.

The ministry said the figures were far from the truth and would be disclosed in Parliament when a motion was moved on the transfer of property.
